Sarah Kmieciak-Thorpe – Accounts Manager at Starfish Accounting

Photo of Sarah Kmieciak-Thorpe - starfishaccounting.co.uk“Mother of 2 pre-school boys and wife to a military man, I have moved around the UK quite a lot but am enjoying being here in Berkshire.

In my spare time, I sing, run and bake, not typically at the same time.  I sing with the Military Wives Choir at Benson which I thoroughly enjoy and we perform at local events in our area.  I have conquered 5 marathons, amongst other running challenges, raising money for RAF Benevolent Fund and other charities close to our hearts.

And when not singing or running I like to bake at home to relax, bringing in my creations to work when my boys haven’t devoured them at home.”

Post-education, Sarah worked with HSBC as a Personal Banking Officer for 3 years.

This was followed by a complete break from the financial world, when Sarah took a job with a small luxury hotel in Scotland.  However, reception work started to give way to helping with the accounts.  The beginning of the slippery slope, as she particularly enjoyed this.

A move to Lincolnshire with the military meant a new job, this time with an accountancy practice for 2 years.  During this time, Sarah achieved AAT level 3.  The firm worked primarily with Public Houses, offering an interesting experience.

Sarah then moved to an accounting firm in Summertown, Oxford, where she spent 6 years and progressed through ACCA.  Before joining Starfish Accounting, Sarah also worked with an accounting firm in Henley.

In these last 2 jobs, Sarah spent much of her time working on VAT, business and charity accounts, giving her an excellent grounding.

Sarah joined Starfish in February 2017.

“Helping people, particularly in understanding the sometimes complex or confusing world of accounting, is one of my motivations.

At Starfish Accounting, this is our style and I also really appreciate the group mentality of being available and accessible to our clients.  This builds a very special relationship with them.

I returned to work after each of my sons were born as I love having the identity of being at work and having a role other than just the greatest role of being Mum.”
